The blog I chose to follow was webdesignledger.com. WDL has a wealth of information for web designers. They feature design trends, inspiration, and useful resources and add new content daily. They also include a lot of tutorials for those looking to learn how to accomplish things in different sofware. I like to go there if I'm looking for design inspiration, fonts, or development trends. It is extremely important to stay up to date when it comes to web design because it is a constantly changing field. Blogs are absolutely the most effective means of communicating the trends the web design world takes on.
Regarding email, I don't believe it is anywhere near death. There is still a huge amount of people that rely on email regularly for communication. I am constantly checking both of my email addresses because that is the way I communicate professionally with any clients I may have. This also applies to any professors with important information about class. Email is still a very effective alternative to the telephone, and neither of them are going anywhere soon.
